Disability is a Myth. Ability is Everything.
At EquallyAble, we’re rewriting the rules. We don’t see limits. We see potential. Through innovation, advocacy, and relentless action, we’re unlocking independence for people with disabilities. This isn’t just charity. It’s a revolution.
Who We Are
Our Story
At EquallyAble, our mission is powered by lived experience. Founder Mohammad Yousuf, a polio survivor, lost the ability to walk at age two and didn’t begin school until twelve. His early life was shaped by stigma, isolation, and discrimination—but never defeated. Against all odds, he went on to earn degrees in Electronics and Computer Engineering and become a leading voice in disability development.
In 2001, he established EquallyAble to ensure others wouldn’t have to fight the same battles alone. What began as one man’s personal journey has become a global movement, reaching across more than 10 countries with life-changing programs in education, health, and economic opportunity.
Every step we take is rooted in the real-life challenges and triumphs of disability. This is more than advocacy—it’s personal transformation turned into collective action. At EquallyAble, lived experience isn’t just part of our story—it is our story.
Our Founder
Mohammad Yousuf – Turning Adversity Into Empowerment
A born fighter, he didn’t begin school until age twelve—but once he did, there was no stopping him. Driven by determination and a hunger for opportunity, he went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering and a Master’s in Computer Engineering. Along the way, he faced bullying, inaccessible systems, and limited resources—but rather than let those challenges define him, he used them to fuel a vision.
In 2001, Mohammad founded the EquallyAble Foundation in Michigan, USA, to ensure that others with disabilities wouldn’t face the same isolation and injustice he once did. Since then, EquallyAble has grown into a global force—transforming lives across more than 10 countries through inclusive programs in education, health, entrepreneurship, and empowerment.
Today, Mohammad serves as the Director of the Office of Infrastructure, Safety, and Asset Innovation at the U.S. Federal Transit Administration. A recognized thought leader in disability development, innovation, and research, he has spoken at leading national and international forums, contributed to congressional and presidential reports, and actively served on technology and accessibility committees.
He lives in Northern Virginia with his wife and three children, and is the author of Ascending Adversity, a memoir that captures his extraordinary life journey.
Through EquallyAble, Mohammad continues to turn adversity into opportunity—not just for himself, but for thousands around the world. Read More

Impact Story:
Meet Kawaru, a young woman from a remote village in Rajasthan, where traditional values often limit education for girls. Her father defied the norm, ensuring she learned to read and write.
With EquallyAble’s support, Kawaru set up a digital agency to help her community access essential government services. Despite her mobility challenges, a motorbike provided by EquallyAble now allows her to serve others in need.
Kawaru’s impact is profound – she helps illiterate villagers with tasks like applying for ration cards and pensions. The community that once discouraged her education now relies on her.
