Prosthetics Changing fate
Srinivasulu, a 41-year-old resident of Lakshmipuram in Kurnool, lives with his family of five. In 2016, he was involved in an accident that left him unable to walk and confined to his home. This had a devastating impact on his mental health, and he became depressed due to his disability. At one point, he even contemplated suicide, feeling like a burden on his family. His wife was the sole breadwinner, and the family’s income was not enough to meet their basic needs.
However, Srinivasulu’s life took a positive turn after he learned about EquallyAble’s mobility aids and appliances program, which was implemented in partnership with the GoodWalk Orthotics Association (GWOA). Thanks to their support, he was able to receive a below-knee leg prosthesis, which gave him a new lease on life. With his mobility restored, he decided to sell fruits within his village to earn a living. He now makes around Rs. 300 to Rs. 400 per day (approximately USD $200 per month) from this venture.
The villagers have been extremely supportive of Srinivasulu’s new business, and he is grateful for their patronage.
