Sonu

Turning Crutches into Wings

Sonu’s business center is situated in the quiet streets of Alwar’s interiors. Despite the peaceful setting, his shop is always bustling with activity as it attracts a steady stream of loyal clients. Ever since he joined forces with DEF, Sonu has experienced a profound sense of fulfillment as a Samarth SoochnaPreneur. In fact, he considers himself to be “Samarth” in the truest sense of the word.

Living with a disability has not stopped Sonu from using his abilities to help others. He has developed innovative ways to reach out to people and ensure that they can reach out to him in turn. For short distances, Sonu travels to meet his clients, while they come to his center for longer visits. This transformation from dependency to self-sufficiency has been a long journey, but one that he is grateful to have made. As he explains, “It feels great to be working with DEF.”

For Sonu, life used to feel meaningless after he became disabled. Society often perceives people with disabilities as burdens or liabilities, but he has been determined to change that perception. He is proud of his newfound social status and image. People are now seeing him for his potential and ability, rather than his disability. With the support of the Samarth SoochnaPreneur project funded by EquallyAble, he is now able to provide for his family, find a new sense of purpose, and feel useful in his community.

As a digitally-enabled entrepreneur, Sonu has also become a role model for those who are struggling with their own challenges. He believes that anyone can achieve anything if they have the potential and are willing to put in the effort. In his own words, “If a man has potential, he can achieve anything.” He is proud of what he has achieved so far and is eager to continue making a positive impact in his community.
