Ameena, however, has overcome all odds. Contracting polio at a young age, Ameena’s ability to walk was greatly affected, succumbing her to crutches early on. But that did not stop her from pursuing her dreams.
Now, Ameena is fulfilling her dreams of studying pharmacy thanks to you. Ameena Finds Hope
In the mountainous region of Timergara, Lower Dir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan, people with disabilities often face significant barriers to inclusion. Due to the lack of accessible services, individuals with disabilities frequently experience poorer health outcomes, limited educational opportunities, higher poverty rates, and reduced economic participation.
For many, like Ameena, who has been using a wheelchair since childhood, achieving education and inclusion has been a distant dream. However, the tireless efforts of Khursheed Alam, a post-polio survivor and founder of the Sada Foundation Special Education and Rehabilitation Center in Timergara, are working to change this reality.
The center, which provides a range of services to empower people with disabilities in the region, has given Ameena and many others the chance to attend school in a welcoming and inclusive environment. Thanks to the efforts of Khursheed Alam and the Sada Foundation, over hundreds of students with disabilities now have access to the education and services they need.
Despite these promising developments, there is still much work to be done to ensure that people with disabilities in Timergara and beyond can fully participate in society. It is essential to continue advocating for accessible services and inclusive policies to create a more equitable and just world for all.
