Mala is a remarkable and beautiful soul from the district of Murshidabad, West Bengal in India. Despite being born with low vision and into a family that is really not well-to-do, she has always shown an unyielding spirit to overcome the obstacles associated with her disability. Her unwavering determination has made her a strong and independent person.
Mala’s desire to support her family financially was always hindered by her lack of education and how to get one.
Fortunately, she came across the EquallyAble GiveHope1000 initiative, which was organized by EquallyAble in partnership with Digital Empowerment Foundation in India. This campaign introduced her to the power of digital literacy and the many ways in which it can be used to improve the lives of her community.
She enrolled herself in the digital literacy course offered by Digital Empowerment Foundation and learned how digital technology can be used to offer simple solutions to everyday problems faced by her community. Through her hard work and dedication, she became a Samarth Soochnaprenuer, a digital entrepreneur who helps her community with online banking, booking online railway and flight tickets, government entitlements, and more. By doing so, she not only earns a living for her family but also supports her community.
Mala’s success is a testament to the power of digital literacy and the importance of empowering individuals with disabilities. Her journey is a shining example of how, with the right resources and opportunities, individuals can overcome their challenges and become valuable members of their community.
