Inclusion happens when we respect and acknowledge equality and facilitate limit the innate talents and capacities we all of have. For the millions of people with disabilities across the world inclusion is a distant reality. Not only are the built and pedestrian environments inaccessible, countless lack meaningful access to durable medical equipment such wheelchairs, crutches, walking cane, etc. Wheelchairs are an essential mode to mobility, yet approximately 131M with physical disabilities are don’t have access to them. This situation effects those living in developing countries at a concerning rate. In the 156 developing countries it is estimated that at least 2% or 121M people with physical disabilities require a wheelchair.

Even in areas where the wheelchairs are available, they lack elements to deal with the areas built inaccessibility and terrain; Moreover, serviceability or ergonomics are rarely considered

To build solutions that create inclusion, EquallyAble is working with global partners to create regional wheelchair design and manufacturing centers in countries across the world. Such manufacturing centers, located in various countries, will employee and train local people with disabilities to be trade-persons to develop high quality wheelchair which are serviceable and can operate in a variety of climatic terrains and environments. The centers will not only meet the demands of the region but also be able to support neighboring countries with comparable terrain or built challenges. The centers will produce wheelchair based on proven best practices, technology transfer and offer technical assistance:

The wheelchairs will be customizable to the individual needs and be ergonomically fitted to their weight and height requrements.

Serviceable

The wheelchairs will be made with easily serviceable parts, these parts will be locally developed and easily available.
